Sergaent

Monday Kevin went from patrol officer to Sergaent! His parents came in town and we all went to his promotion ceremony. Reese, Rylee, and I were sitting next to Kevin in the front row. Kevin's parents sat behind us with Karsyn. As the chief begins to speak I begin to hear little grunts from Karsyn so I pass a bottle back. Crisis averted : ) Then Rylee starts getting antsy. I quietly ask her to be still and she whispers that she needs to go potty. I tell her just a few more minutes and we will be done. She then says in her very NOT inside voice that she NEEDS TO GO TO THE BAFROOM! Kevin is now looking directly at the chief as if he is hanging on every word and he has no idea who this child belongs to. I decide I should be able to get her to the bathroom and back in time to pin Kevin's new badge on. It was way worse than getting up in a church service. There were no little old ladies with sweet understanding smiles. It was the walk of shame. A ton of uniforms all looking solemnly ahead at Chief Bowman. We finally made it to the restrooms where I was surprised to turn around and see that Reese had decided to follow me too. Great. We made it to the restrooms and on the way out is where I finally ran into the smiling faces. All the officers standing out in the hall were a bunch of cut-ups. Kind of like the kids standing outside of the principal's office or something. Someone received a phone call with the ringtone of "Sanford and Sons" TWICE. They snickered like a bunch of teenagers. Reese and Rylee ran into one of their "friends" they made while Kevin was at the Academy and decided to hang back with her. I was able to make it back up front with Kevin just in time for his pinning. Whew! That was close. Of course the girls were sweet little princesses afterward especially since there were cookies and punch to be had.

I guess the real focus of this entry should be that I am very proud of Kevin and the job he does. Last week he sat for hours on a bridge with a man threatening to jump (it was 100+ that day). He worked what was supposed to be few hours of overtime Wednesday until 1:30am and had to wake up at 4:30am to make it in for a briefing. Last night he was paged out for swat at 2am for a man who barricaded himself in a house. He came home at 6am to shower and shave and won't make it back home until tonight at 9:30. His job can be discouraging at times but he never gives up. After all this he is still able to come home and make his family a priority and be a great father and husband. So congratulations Kevin you deserve a pat on the back!
